Turkish documents to be submitted in Bulgaria are first apostilled and then given an official Bulgarian translation. Bulgarian documents to be used in Türkiye are apostilled in Bulgaria, then given a sworn Turkish translation and notarised. If the order or format is wrong, the document is not accepted and the application is delayed.
In citizenship, residence permit and visa applications, accurate, complete and officially accepted translations of your documents decide the fate of your application. How are Turkish documents used in Bulgaria?
- The original document is obtained: for example, a multilingual or full civil registry record from the civil registry or e-Government.
- Apostille: Türkiye and Bulgaria are parties to the Hague Apostille Convention. The document is apostilled in Türkiye by the governorship or district governorship. For details see our civil registry record and apostille guide.
- Translation into Bulgarian: the whole document, including the apostille page, is translated. Official authorities in Bulgaria require the translation to be made by an authorised translator and the translator’s signature to be certified.
- Submission: the translation is submitted to the relevant institution together with the original document.
How are Bulgarian documents used in Türkiye?
If a birth certificate, marriage certificate or court decision from Bulgaria will be used in Türkiye, it is first apostilled in Bulgaria. Then a sworn Turkish translation is made and certified by a Turkish notary. We explain how to get a Bulgarian marriage certificate in our article how to get a Bulgarian marriage certificate, and the birth certificate in how to get a birth certificate from Bulgaria.
Points to watch with names and dates
Turkish names are written in Cyrillic in Bulgarian records. If the same person’s name is spelled differently in different documents (e.g. Mehmet / Мехмед / Mehmed), the translation must show this difference clearly. Otherwise the institution may treat the document as belonging to another person. In that case a name equivalence certificate may also be required. In our translations:
- We write names in the same form as in earlier Bulgarian records.
- We match dates and place names with the form used in Bulgarian records.
- We add the known equivalents of old place names (e.g. old village names) as notes.

Frequently asked questions
Which languages do you translate?
We offer translation in all languages, especially Turkish, Bulgarian, Romanian and English.
How is the price determined?
The price depends on the type and length of the document, the language pair and whether notarisation is required. If you fill in the form, we prepare a personal quote.
Apostille first or translation first?
If a Turkish document will be used in Bulgaria, the apostille comes first; then the whole document, including the apostille, is translated. If the apostille is obtained after the translation, the apostille page is not translated and the document may be returned.
Is a Bulgarian translation made in Türkiye valid in Bulgaria?
It depends on the institution and the document. Some institutions require a translation made and certified by an authorised translator in Bulgaria. We decide from the start where the translation should be made according to where your document will be used.
How many days does a translation take?
Standard documents are usually delivered within a few working days. Documents requiring notarisation and apostille take longer. We plan urgent work separately.
